The Inaugural Mens & Ladies County U20/University 9s were held in Oxford on Sunday the 16th of November and invited teams from our South and Midlands region.
A fantastic day which seen three new University teams play for the first time – Cardiff University Ladies, Cambridge University Mens and Ladies teams.
The Event was a collaboration effort between Britain Gaelic Athletic Association, Britain Ladies Gaelic Football Association and our British Universities Committee.
Sinead Lyons, President of Britain Ladies Gaelic Football had this to say on the Inaugural event:
“It is very exciting to see the inaugural u20/University 9’s competition get underway last weekend. A huge thank you to the GGCB and all the organisers for getting it up and running.
Well done to all teams involved, particularly the ladies university teams from Cardiff and Cambridge. It’s great to see new teams starting up and developing football in Britain.”
Sean Hopkins, President of Britain Gaelic Athletic Association paid tribute to the people involved:
“Huge credit to all our hosts, volunteers and staff for facilitating this first event and also to the students who have worked tirelessly in the background to get your teams out on the field for the first time today – The first competition of many for you all.”
We see this event not only as a stepping stone for new University teams but also the potential launch of our County U20 competitions in the very near future.”
